Another Wicked good week

The Jonas Brothers might turn green with envy as they relinquish their number one position to the hit musical Wicked this week. There’s no question as to which witches to watch, either. Glinda and Elphaba top the Theatre, Broadway, and Overall Events lists with almost twice as much in ticket sales as any other event for the week of Feb. 10 through Feb. 17. Those musical Jonas boys from New Jersey should also be wary of the musical Jersey Boys, which sidled up from the fourth to the third position this week.

Also appearing in the Overall Top 10 Events is a hefty bill of Top Concert Events that helped push last week’s big events out of the rankings. Fans can surely expect the “Piano Man” Billy Joel to be in a “New York State of Mind” as he gears up to play the last concert at Shea Stadium on July 16. Onsales for his tickets this past weekend shot this “Big Shot” up to fourth place for the week. Celine Dion’s popularity – like her heart – continues to go on (and on and on!) as she claims the number five position, and while unstoppable duo Jay-Z & Mary J. Blige “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” they can knock Bon Jovi, Tom Petty, and Kenny Chesney down the rankings as the hip hop duo clinches sixth place.

The World Series Champions Boston Red Sox top the sports chart, as UFC 83 vacated the number one position from last week. WWE came in a close second, smacking down just above the New York Yankees. The Boston Celtics also got “Lucky” this week, with a mere 111 to 103 win over the New York Knicks in their Feb. 13 game. However, in the Top Sports Events chart, the Celtics clearly dominated with a climb from ninth to fourth place as the Knicks fell a spot to eighth place.

While Wicked and the Jersey Boys clearly dominate both the Top Broadway and Top Theater lists, a few other productions are able to soak up some spotlight as well. A fifth place position on the Broadway chart allowed the Lion King a third place finish on the theater list. The The Little Mermaid certainly doesn’t remain “Under The Sea” this week either, as the musical achieves third place on Broadway and sixth in theater overall. Finally, that monster of a musical (Young Frankenstein) earns a respectable fourth place on Broadway and seventh in theater for the week.

The City of Lights also shines through with some fan favorites retaining the top three Vegas Show positions from last week. Even if she could “Turn Back Time,” Cher probably wouldn’t be going anywhere, as she retains the number one Vegas position this week. The Divine Miss M is another Showgirl who Must Go On, and Bette Midler stays in second place. Lastly, Sir Elton John and his Red Piano won’t be flickering like a “Candle In The Wind,” as he retains his third place Vegas position this week as well.
