Cheech & Chong, who broke up in the mid-1980s because of creative differences, are reuniting for a comedy tour this fall to be promoted by Live Nation. Chong's wife and comedy partner, Shelby Chong, will open all dates on the Light Up America tour.
The tour opens on September 12 in Philadelphia, PA at the Tower Theatre, with dates confirmed through December 20 in Denver, CO at the Paramount Theatre with more shows to be announced.
The duo has hinted for years of a possible reunion. In an interview with the Associated Press, Cheech Marin joked, "You know what they say, 'Time wounds all heals.'"
During their original run, Marin, 62, and Tommy Chong, 70, released nine comedy albums between 1972 and 1985, were nominated for four Grammy Awards and won one. They also starred in eight feature films, almost always portraying a pair of comical stoners stumbling through life. While Chong has continued to do standup since the two split, Marin has concentrated on films and TV appearances.
