Cirque's Wintuk returns to WaMu Theater

By Jane Cohen & Bob Grossweiner

Cirque du Soleil's holiday family show, Wintuk, which made its world debut last year at WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, is returning for its second season. The stay will be a 10-week, limited run from Oct. 30 to Jan. 4. Annual return visits are planned.

The seasonal, winter-themed show, filled with acrobats and dancers, tells a winter tale of one boy’s quest to find snow and adventure in the land of Wintuk. This is Cirque's first show specifically created for a family audience. A touring version is planned for 2010.

With a cast of 50 performers, the production combines thrilling circus arts, breathtaking theatrical effects and memorable songs.

From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is now a major Quebec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has over 3,500 employees from over 40 different countries, including 900 artists. Cirque du Soleil has performed for close to 60 million spectators in over 100 cities on four continents.
