Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals confirmed for 2009
The 2009 editions of Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival have been confirmed for April 17-19 and April 25-26, respectively. Both events will again take place at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA, the same grounds where Coachella debuted in 1999. Stagecoach is reverting back to its original two-day format, and both festivals are a week earlier than last year.
Coachella 2008 was staged April 25-27 and featured more than 100 artists, including Prince, Roger Waters, Kraftwerk, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Serj Tankian, Fatboy Slim, Tegan and Sara. The multi-stage festival features a cross-section of music genres, including alternative, rock, electronic and hip hop.
Stagecoach was launched two years ago by Goldenvoice’s Paul Tollett, the same promoter as for Coachella, and featured more than 40 acts of various musical genres: mainstream country, bluegrass, folk, roots rock and alt-country in four performance areas.
The 2007festival stretched over two days and was increased to three days last year when the Eagles were booked. It featured bluegrass pioneers Earl Scruggs and Ralph Stanley as well as Carrie Underwood, Rascall Flatts, Tim McGraw, George Jones and Glen Campbell, and the reunion of famed mother/daughter duo, The Judds.
