Feist tour hosts cross-country food drive in Canada this fall
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Feist won't be singing for peanuts when she launches her fall tour of Canada this month, but she does hope to collect cans of food along the way.
A statement on the musician's official Web site announced that each venue on Feist's itinerary will collect donations of food and money to benefit local food banks in partnership with the Canadian Association of Food Banks. In addition, all merchandise proceeds will go to Canadian-based charity initiatives CARE Canada, Doctors Without Borders, and War Child Canada.
The Food Drive Across Canada tour kicks off October 14 at South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC, and continues through a November 10 performance at Confederation of the Arts in Charlottetown, PE. The 14-city trek also includes an October 18 gig at Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, AB, and a November 1 performance at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON.
Leslie Feist, who records under her last name, is touring in support of her third album and U.S. breakthrough "The Reminder," released in 2007. The album's popularity rocketed when Apple featured the single "1234" in an advertising campaign for the iPod Nano. The song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, with the album peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 chart for album sales.
The native Canadian debuted in 1999 with "Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down)," but gained mainstream notice with her 2004 follow-up, "Let It Die." The record, which features the single "Mushaboom," placed at No. 36 on the Heatseekers chart for upcoming indie acts.
