LiveNation.com has launched an interactive 3-D seat mapping feature for the majority of its amphitheatres, enabling music fans to locate their desired seats based on a 3-D image. With just a click, music fans can see a realistic animated version of the actual view of the stage from their seat.
“We’ve done away with archaic two dimensional seat maps in most of our amphitheaters
across the country and we believe the fans are going to love it,” said Bryan Perez, global
digital president of Live Nation. “Our new maps provide music fans with a direct link to their seat, wherever it may be in the venue, in just seconds.”
This important new feature makes perfect sense for Live Nation as it prepares to launch its own ticketing system when its contract with Ticketmaster expires at the end of 2008. Over the next year, look for more moves as the company plans to position itself as a major player in the ticketing industry.
This new web site feature was developed in collaboration with Ballena Technologies, a company specializing in venue and event 3-D visualization; additional venues are expected to be added.
3-D seat maps are available for the following 36 Live Nation sheds:

I wonder if LN has thought through the implications of 3-D maps for pre-sales and first day sales high demand shows. TM, which has the most robust ticketing system today, buckles in those situations with minimal graphics displayed.
Aside from the drag on the systems and given that the majority of tickets are sold in the high demand presales and onsale, are people going to be inclined to spend even a precious "few seconds" checking the view, especially when the best any seat-viewer is likely to do is give you a very rough of the view from specific seats.
Rapino has been saying in speeches the last couple years that ticketing should move to allowing buyers to select their seats. Although probably an even greater drain on systems, I'd be a lot more excited about this prospect, which is currently available from some ticketing systems used for small venues, becoming reality for sheds and arenas.
Or, how about just provided decent, concert-customized seating charts - ones that make clear where your seats will be located for the show for which you're buying tickets?
Generally, I don't get the sense that LN is connecting to its customer base or paying much attention to what they really want or will love.
still don't have any seat numbers which would be most helpful
Well, I cant agree more.
Chart comes up but when you click on the section it shows nothing...how helpful is something that doesn't work!!!
Need to show actual seat numbers!!! Or at least the first and last seat numbers.
