Liza Minnelli takes show to Broadway for nine performances
For two weeks only, consummate performer Liza Minnelli will star on Broadway for a limited nine-night engagement with her new show, "Liza's at the Palace...!" The event is scheduled to run December 3, 5-7, 9-10, and 12-14.
Tickets go on sale October 26. The face value for tickets is set at $125, $100, or $55 (plus $1.50 facility restoration fee for the Palace Theatre). In addition, $25 first row seats will be made available at the box office by daily lottery.
The evening will feature an incomparable Minnelli songfest including many of her personal favorites and signature hits, followed by a dance-filled tribute to the groundbreaking late-1940s nightclub act of Minnelli's late godmother, Kay Thompson.
Minnelli will be accompanied by a 12-man orchestra led by conductor/drummer Michael Berkowitz and pianist/musical supervisor Billy Stritch and supported by a quartet of singer/dancers.
"Liza’s at the Palace...!" will be highlighted with many of the performer's showstoppers such as "Cabaret," "Maybe This Time" and "New York, New York." For the first time onstage, Minnelli will pay a special salute to Kay Thompson, who was a legendary performer ("Think Pink!" from "Funny Face"), author ("Eloise at the Plaza"), as well a gifted vocal arranger and music director/vocal coach at MGM Studios, who worked with Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Lena Horne.
The concert performance will be scripted by Minnelli and Tony Award-winner David Zippel and will be full of personal stories, anecdotes and heartfelt reminiscences embraced in a theatrical setting featuring scenery by Ray Klausen, costumes by Minnelli's longtime designer Halston, lighting by Matthew Berman and sound by Matt Krauss.
"Liza at the Palace...!" is produced by John Scher/Metropolitan Talent Presents & Jubilee Time Productions, directed and choreographed by Ron Lewis. Gary Labriola is the executive producer.
