With opening day just over a month away, five Major League Baseball teams are holding ticket onsales this week, ending March 1, in addition to onsales for specific shows by various country and rock acts, as compiled by TicketNews.
On the baseball front, both The Atlanta Braves and the storied New York Yankees have single-game tickets on sale Friday, Feb. 29. The Braves hope to rebound from last year and reach the top of the National League East in 2008, while the Yankees, who added new manager Joe Girardi, look to best their division rival Boston Red Sox. Other baseball onsales include the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, coming off a division winning season, the Cleveland Indians, also hoping to make back-to-back playoff appearances in 2008, and the Seattle Mariners, who are looking to rebound after a disappointing 2007.
In other sports onsales this week, David Beckham’s team, the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer club, has tickets on sale. The Galaxy recently had a strong third place finish in the Pan-Pacific Championship exhibition tournament, and hope to continue that success into the Major League Soccer season.
The week also offers several additional dates to previously on sale tours. Celine Dion, Kanye West, and The Police have several additional dates available. The joint tour between Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z also has new shows up for sale, including dates at Madison Square Garden and The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
In the world of country music, several artists have tour dates on sale this week. Tim Mcgraw has four tour stops on sale this week, while Toby Keith’s concert in Allentown, PA goes on sale the same day. A joint concert between Keith Urban and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria Illinois is also on sale Saturday morning.
Multiple Grammy winner Alicia Keys has three dates on sale Saturday, and James Taylor has three dates of his own on sale this week. Rounding out the onsales for the week is rock band Iron Maiden, who have a concert date in Woodlands, Texas on sale this week.
“Onsales” is a ticketing industry term describing when tickets initially go on sale to the general public. Each week, tickets are released by promoters, venues and others to dozens of events, but the number of tickets available can vary significantly between locations.
