Pixar's "Up" finds its way up to the top of the movie box office
Pixar’s most recent in its line of enchanting animated features, "Up", soared to the top of the box office this weekend. The PG-rated fantasy follows an older man (voiced by Ed Asner) whose house takes to the sky when balloons burst through his roof, and a young boy who gets the adventure of his life when his floats along, hidden on the man’s porch. The film earned $68.2 million its opening weekend, according to estimates from studio trackers Nielsen EDI.
"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" slid to second with $25.5 million in its second week out, ending with a total of $105 million. This was well ahead of its closest challenger for first place last week, "Terminator Salvation". "Terminator" finished the weekend in the fourth slot at $16.1 million, and a total gross of $90.7 million after two weeks.
The horror film "Drag Me to Hell" debuted to third place with $16.6 million, while the popular "Star Trek" rounded out the top five with $12.8 million, bringing its total to $210 million in its four weeks in the theaters. "Dance Flick" fell out of the top five, earning $4.9 million its second week out. Final numbers are due out Monday.
