Radio City launches speaker series

By Bob Grossweiner & Jane Cohen

Next month, Radio City Music Hall will launch a new Speaker Series that it plans to make an annual event. The first discussion, entitled “The Minds That Move The World,” which will be moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, will kick off on April 21 and feature Tucker Carlson, James Carville and Arianna Huffington. Three other events are scheduled: Vice President Al Gore on May 2; former presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards, moderated by Tim Russert on May 28; and President Bill Clinton on June 17. Moderators for President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore’s engagements will be announced at a later date.

The series is billed as a timely and important series of events that will provide attendees with a unique framework for understanding America’s current political landscape and place in world politics, through the insights of some of the most prominent political figures of our time.

The series will be formatted to allow for each participant to present their thoughts on a wide range of important political and national issues, followed by a moderated question and answer period during which the moderator can elicit additional information and insights into particularly pertinent topics of the day.

“MSG Entertainment is proud to present our first speaker series featuring such a distinguished group of political figures, during one of the most exciting and important presidential election years of our lifetime,” Melissa Miller Ormond, executive vice president, Bookings, MSG Entertainment, said in a statement. “We hope that the Radio City Music Hall Speaker Series will not only give New Yorkers an informative and empowering experience that will help them make informed political decisions, but also inspire them to become more involved in our democratic process.

“Over its long history, Radio City Music Hall has been the site of an extremely diverse collection of events that have spanned the spectrum of topics – from entertainment to movies to politics. With the Radio City Music Hall Speaker Series, we are embracing the unique capacity of Radio City to serve as a destination for important cultural events,” Ormond added.

Tickets for series packages, “The Minds That Move the World,” start at $200 and go on sale on March 30.
