You may know her from Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted, or The Devil Wears Prada. You may have seen her star as Cat Woman in The Dark Night Rises or as the tragic Fantine of Les Misérables. These days you will find Anne Hathaway at the Public Theater, taking on the role of a name-less UAV pilot in George Brant’s one-woman show, Grounded.

The beauty of Brant’s slippery script…we are both witness and spying eye; we cannot escape being implicated in the debate about moral responsibility. – Lyn Gardner

Directed by Tony Award Winner Julie Taymor, Grounded promises to be an intense production on all accounts. Viewers can expect smoke effects, loud bursts of sound, and a heavy performance that will stay with them in days to come. I am eager to see what direction Taymour will take with Brant’s script, which has seen different interpretations at the hands of Ken Rus Schmoll and Derek Goldman. With its single character, this production also promises to be very different from projects Julie Taymour has taken on before – the Broadway production of The Lion King and film version of A Midsummer Nights Dream being among her best-known successes.

Personally, I cannot be more excited to see Anne Hathaway grapple with this material. Given her history of careful research for roles such as Fantine, I expect Hathaway’s performance in Grounded will stun us all. Grounded opens on April 26th, 2015 and will continue until May 24th, 2015. Be sure to purchase tickets as soon as possible. You don’t want to miss out on this moment in history.
