Songwriting legend Brian Wilson is internationally recognized for his work both together and apart from the Beach Boys. Now for the first time in his decades-long career, the musician has plans to mount his own cross-Canada tour.
The summer 2011 venture, which follows the recent release of “Brian Wilson Re-Imagines Gershwin,” launches June 16 at Centre in the Square in Kitchener, ON. Nine performances are scheduled for the two-week circuit, which wraps June 28 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC.
During his trek across the provinces, Wilson will stop for gigs on June 18 at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON, and June 25 at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary, AB, among other performance dates.
Public ticket sales begin today, November 19, across Canada. Ticket prices range from CA $55 up to CA $85, according to current Ticketmaster.com listings.
Wilson will perform the entirety of his August release “Brian Wilson Re-Imagines Gershwin,” featuring songs by George and Ira Gershwin, during next summer’s stint. His concerts will also include mix of tunes from his solo and Beach Boys catalogues.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to tour Canada,” Wilson said in a statement about the upcoming tour. “I always love visiting and it will be nice to play for my fans across the entire country and to visit places I’ve never been!”
Prior to “Gershwin,” the singer-songwriter’s most recent studio album was 2008’s acclaimed “That Lucky Old Sun.” While promoting that effort, Wilson completed two United States-only tour legs in November 2008 and later in fall 2009.
