Born in New York, New York in 1964, Lenny Kravitz is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and arranger, as well as a multi-instrumentalist with a well known “retro” style. His musical sound is unique in that it incorporates a large mixture of rock, soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk, and ballads.
Kravitz broke the record for most wins in the “Best Male rock Vocal Performance” category of the Grammy Awards by taking home the Grammy four years in a row, from 1999 to 2002. He has also had multiple number one hits on the US Top Singles Charts and many more worldwide. “Let Love Rule” was his debut album that released on September 6, 1989 and was only a moderate success with mixed reviews in the U.S., but became huge elsewhere, such as Europe. His first hit album to make it to the Top 40 was “Mama Said” (1991), and his most successful albums included “Are You Gonna Go My Way” (1993), “5” (1998), and his greatest hits album (2000), together selling a total of over 21 million albums worldwide and each hitting 2x and 3x Platinum status.
More recently, Kravitz mini-toured 9 cities, which began in Santa Monica, California and ended in New York City in early 2008 with his newest album “It Is Time for a Love Revolution.” Kravitz’s severe case of bronchitis forced him to cancel some of his shows on his summer 2009 Let Love Rule European tour.
