Whitesnake is an English rock band that was founded in 1977 by lead singer David Coverdale. Their sound was compared to Deep Purple early on, before the band settled into the hard rock genre. Since their founding, the group has released 11 studio albums and 4 live albums, as well as 10 compilations. Their self-titled album, released in 1987, was the most successful to date, reaching #2 on the U.S. music charts and going 8-times platinum.

Whitesnake continues to tour and released their most recent album, “Good to Be Bad” (which was classified as a gold album), in 2008. In August 2009, Whitesnake had to drop out of their summer tour with Judas Priest after Coverdale was diagnosed with severe vocal chord edema and a lesion on his vocal chords.
