TicketNews has released its exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, March 28, and TD Garden in Boston, MA, has taken the number one spot this week. Power scoring an impressive 3.13, the Garden is home to the Boston Celtics, who have clinched the Atlantic Division title, and to Boston Bruins hockey. In concerts, the Garden has Lady Gaga (at number one in this week’s Top Concert Events rankings) in July and the Black Eyed Peas (at number nine), who recently added new summer dates to their North American tour, in August.
Knocked from the number one spot it held for three weeks was Madison Square Garden (MSG). In at number two and power scoring a 2.92, MSG hosts the popular New York Knicks and New York Rangers. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is currently in a multiple-show run which ends later this week, and the fan favorite WWE tour, at number six in this week’s Top Sports Events rankings, arrives in June. In concerts, MSG will see James Taylor and Carole King (at number ten in Top Concerts) in June, Lady Gaga in July and Justin Bieber (at number two in this week’s Top Concerts) in August.
Usually a football venue, Lucas Oil Stadium moved back into the Top Ten this week, landing at number three. The Stadium is host to the semifinal and final rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s Final Four (at number two in this week’s Top Sports) in games to be played later this week. Lucas Oil Stadium power scored a 2.13 this week.
Next in the rankings, the Gershwin Theatre in New York City dropped two to the number four position. Power scoring a 2.04, the Gershwin makes the top five week after week on continued robust sales for its award-winning musical, Wicked.
Also dropping two spots was the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. At number five, Staples is home court for the well performing Los Angeles Lakers (number ten in this week’s Top Sports rankings), who have clinched a berth in the upcoming NBA playoffs. The NBA’s LA Clippers and the NHL’s LA Kings also call the venue home. In music, the Black Eyed Peas are in the middle of a two-date appearance which ends tonight. Michael Buble (at number seven in this week’s Top Concerts) and Taylor Swift (number four) perform at Staples in April, and Lady Gaga arrives in August. The Staples Center power scored a 1.97 this week.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, made its way back into the Top Ten this week, finishing at number six. The Arena will host the much anticipated Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Shane Mosley bout (at number four in Top Sports) scheduled for May 1. The Arena also hosts the Eagles (at number three in Top Concerts) in April, with James Taylor and Carole King in July and Lady Gaga in August. The MGM Grand Garden Arena power scored a 1.79 this week.
Fenway Park returned to the Top Ten for the second week in a row, holding steady in the number seven position and power scoring a 1.61. Fenway’s Boston Red Sox, who have dominated TicketNews’ Top Sports rankings for the past four weeks, will play their opener against the New York Yankees on April 4.
Following a week out of the Top Ten, the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA, reappeared, finishing at number eight. The Center is home to the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, and it will host a number of top musical artists in the coming weeks. Acts on the Center’s roster include James Taylor and Carole King in June, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in July and Lady Gaga in September. The Wachovia Center power scored a 1.49 this week.
The Hollywood Bowl also returned to the Top Ten this week, coming in at number nine with a power score of 1.43. Paul McCartney (number six in Top Concerts) plays the outdoor amphitheatre tonight (March 30) and tomorrow, and James Taylor and Carole King grace the stage for three dates in May.
The Quicken Loans Arena (formerly Gund Arena) made it back into the Top Ten this week, taking the number ten spot and power scoring a 1.38. The venue is home court to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have clinched the NBA’s Central Division. In music, both Lady Gaga and the James Taylor/Carole King tour arrive to play the venue in July.
As the NBA playoffs approach, basketball arenas made it big in this week’s Top Ten. Indoor concert arenas also performed well. The Gershwin is the sole theater venue in the Top Ten this week.
