Recently formed supergroup Chickenfoot will step out next month for its inaugural tour of North America, followed by a summer tour of Europe. Former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, along with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Joe Satriani, will christen the Road test Tour with a May 14 opener at El Corazon in Seattle, WA.

A total of nine dates are booked through a May 29 show at Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Highlights include a May 15 performance at Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC, a May 22 gig at Park West in Chicago, IL, and a May 28 concert at the Fillmore in New York, NY.

Pre-sales for the national tour begin April 16 and are open only to members of the official Chickenfoot fan club. The first public on-sales begin on April 17, with the average face value for tickets coming in at $50.

Chickenfoot officially announced its formation in May 2008 and has spent the past year in the studio developing the band’s self-titled debut, due in stores on June 9.

In an interview last year with Billboard, Satriani described the band’s sound as an infusion of funk, blues and experimental rock. However, in his own interviews, Hagar was more hyperbolic in his assessment of the group. According to published reports, the vocalist has said, “When people hear the music, it’s Led Zeppelin. It’s as good as that. I know that’s a might bold statement…. We could rival Zep.”

The members of Chickenfoot performed together for the first time in February 2008 during a solo Hagar concert in Las Vegas. The musicians’ on-stage connection was so good that they decided to begin working together on a more regular basis. At the time, “Chickenfoot” was just a working title, as Satriani told Billboard, but the name seems to have stuck since then.

After completing their brief tour of the U.S. and Canada, the collective will head overseas for a series of solo and festival performances. The summer 2009 European tour features 14 performances, launching June 20 at Nova Rock Festival in Nickelsdorf, AUS, and ending July 12 at Bospop Festival in Weert, NET.
