Joe Cocker embarks on four-month tour

British rock/blues singer Joe Cocker, whose gritty voice is one of the most recognizable in popular music, is setting out on a four-month, predominantly amphitheater, tour beginning May 24 in West Palm Beach, FL. The trek is in support of his new album, "Hymn For My Soul," which was released earlier this month, and the tour's last confirmed date is August 9 in Las Vegas, NV.

The album unites Cocker with producer Ethan Johns (Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, Ryan Adams, Razorlight, Kings of Leon) and one of the most stellar bands to be assembled in a recording studio in recent times.

Kenny Chesney wins country artist award

Brian O'Connell of Live Nation was named Promoter of the Year, and Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Arena was named the Casino of the Year, at the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards this past weekend in Las Vegas. The awards are voted by the membership and honors country music's best in the category.

Other industry winners included the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA, for Venue of the Year, and Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth, TX, for Nightclub of the Year.

Tina Turner tickets remain popular

Tina Turner is proving to be a hot ticket in Los Angeles. Due to overwhelming demand for tickets to her first L.A. show on October 13, the eight-time Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has added a second show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on October 16. Tickets for both shows are currently on sale.

The 68-year-old singer is not stopping there. Last week, Turner's tour also added second shows in Kansas City, Boston and Toronto, while a third show was added in Chicago. The singer is coming out of retirement for the tour, which has quickly become one of the most eagerly anticipated tours of the year.

Madonna tickets and the secondary market

In an industry first for a major artist, Madonna has publicly embraced a secondary ticket broker, UK-based viagogo, as one of the channels for fans to obtain tickets.

The Sticky & Sweet Tour is the singer's first under her $120 million deal with Live Nation, and viagogo will be the authorized secondary ticket reseller throughout Europe, with the exception of Germany and Italy. Live Nation and viagogo already work together in the Netherlands. Madonna has also signed a deal with StubHub as the official fan-to-fan ticket exchange in the U.S.

Janet Jackson tickets could be hot

Another top female concert draw has confirmed tour plans. Janet Jackson, who has not toured in seven years, has confirmed tour plans on the heels of similar tour announcements recently made by female touring icons Madonna and Tina Turner.

While there are no tour dates on either Jackson's or Live Nation's website, her tour promoter, Jackson confirmed to the Associated Press that her tour will open September 10 in Vancouver, BC and includes dates in New York and Washington, DC. Tickets go on sale June 7.

Madonna tickets selling out quickly

Ticket sales were strong out of the gate for Madonna's upcoming Sticky & Sweet Tour, according to officials with the tour. Among weekend sell-outs were stadium shows in Paris, France and London, England along with arena shows in Boston, MA and Chicago, IL. Two performances at Madison Square Garden sold out today, May 19, and Live Nation, the tour promoter, added a third show for October 11, which also sold out.

Tickets also moved swiftly for shows in Amsterdam, Holland; Cardiff, Wales; and Nice, France.

Carlos Mencia on tour: At Close Range

Stand-up comedian Carlos Mencia, known for his man-on-the-street interviews, studio comedy and commercial parodies, is launching an 80-city stand-up comedy tour in July called "Bud Light Presents Carols Mencia: At Close Range." The tour begins July 26 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, and continues through December 13 in Rio Puerco, NM. It is produced by Live Nation Comedy and Icon Entertainment.

As one of the most popular comedians in the country, Mencia offers insightful observations and precise delivery when addressing a variety of subjects, including ethnic stereotypes, racism and people's inability to laugh at themselves. His 2006 Comedy Central Original Stand-up Special, "Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached," was the first Comedy Central Original Stand-up Special DVD to achieve platinum sales status. His new comedy special for Comedy Central, "Carlos Mencia * * Performance Enhanced," premiered on May 18.

Jonas Brothers tour taps Burger King

In keeping with its teen image, the Jonas Brothers upcoming Burning Up Tour will be co-sponsored by Burger King Corp. (BK). Terms of the sponsorship were not divulged.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour is slated to hit 38 cities across North America, July 4 – August 21, and is part of the trio's long-term, multi-million dollar worldwide touring deal with Live Nation, which began January 31.

Sheryl Crow cancels St. Louis show

Sheryl Crow, on tour with James Blunt, has canceled her Thursday, May 22, concert at the Fox Theater in St. Louis, MO, "due to unforeseen circumstances relating to conflicting concert production logistics," a post on her website read.

The post stressed that it is the only concert affected and all shows from May 23 in Birmingham onward will be taking place. Full ticket refunds from point of purchase were offered along with a plege to return to St. Louis in the future.

Nelson Mandela honored with a concert

Human rights icon and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Nelson Mandela will be feted with a star-studded concert on June 27 at London’s Hyde Park where many of the world's most powerful figures will pay tribute to one of the most loved leaders of the 20th Century as he turns 90 later this year. The concert will have an audience of 46,664 and will likely be a hot ticket.

Three days of celebrations will culminate in a three-hour evening concert billed as: The 46664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90. It will feature specially invited artists: Queen + Paul Rodgers, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, Leona Lewis, the Sugababes, Dame Shirley Bassey, Razorlight, Andrea and Sharon Corr, Eddy Grant, and Jamelia, along with international 46664 Ambassadors Italy's Zucchero and Spain's Amaral.
