Today’s tour recap includes new concert announcements, as well as comedy news and updates, as compiled by Ticket News on September 3, 2008.
In music news, The Decemberists have a November tour coming up to support their three-part series of single releases. Indie rockers Ghostland Observatory are also on the road, with dates scheduled straight through New Year’s Eve. But if you’re looking for laughs, comedians are teaming up for a six-city, one-day tribute to the late Mitch Hedberg.

Sammy Hagar recently announced two additional shows in 2008 with his band, The Wabos. Originally, the former Van Halen frontman was scheduled for a single show at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA, on November 16. Now, he is also slated to appear on November 18-19 at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO. The rocker finished his summer itinerary at the end of August after performing more than one dozen shows since May.
Sonya Kitchell will be out on the road for a late fall tour of the United States. The 27-date trek kicks off September 24 in Burlington, VT, and wraps in Nashville, TN, on November 2. Stops along the way include the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, MA, on September 25, and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on October 1. The trek offers two shows in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Colorado, and three performances in California.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are also on the road in September for a 22-date tour of North America. The show opens on September 7 in Jacksonville, OR, at the Britt Pavilion and concludes on November 12 at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. The tour’s two Canadian stops are scheduled for September 13 at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB, and September 28 at Petit Campus in Montreal, QC. The music goes on in 2009, with Potter booked for the January 4-9 Jam Cruise, setting out from Fort Lauderdale, FL.
The Latin rock band Del Castillo are looking to the future, even though they’re still on the road with their summer and fall tour. The Austin, TX-based group has added two 2009 dates to their itinerary, January 16 at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg, FL, and January 17 at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa, FL. The 2008 tour is scheduled to wrap on November 14 at the Palace Theatre in Grapevine, TX.
Pop-punk rockers Simple Plan have announced an Australian leg of their current world tour. The five-date trek begins October 14 in Perth and wraps up October 21 in West Melbourne. The Australian dates precede the band’s 20-date European tour, which begins October 29 in Helsinki, Finland, and closes November 29 in London, England. Currently, the band is performing a series of Canadian shows, which are slated to end with a September 13 performance in Montreal, QC.
Husband-and-wife team Over the Rhine have added dates to their 2008 itinerary. The pair has fifteen performances scheduled for the remainder of the year, starting with an October 11 concert at Elk Creek Vineyards in Owenton, KY, and closing with December 19-20 shows the Taft Theater in Cincinnati, OH. Early next year, Over the Rhine will be on the road again — and on the water — with seven performances on the Cayamo Cruise, leaving the port of Miami, FL, on February 28 and returning March 7.
The reunited comedy duo Cheech & Chong have announced five additional dates for their current tour of North America. The newly scheduled shows fall on September 28 in Tampa, FL; October 3 in Hampton Beach, NH; October 4 in Albany, NY; October 23 in Westbury, NY; and November 20 in Eugene, OR. The final performance for the 2008 trek, which began over the summer, is set for December 20 in Denver, CO.
Finally, Billy Bragg is slated to return to the States for a new string of dates this fall. The newest leg of his U.S. tour begins October 17 at the State Theatre in State College, PA, and is slated to wrap up November 2 at Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. The 11-date tour is completely comprised of East Coast shows, including an October 27 gig at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.
