Today’s recap includes tour plans, date announcements, cancellations and more as compiled by TicketNews on December 3, 2008.
The “Rumours” ended today, if you’ll forgive the pun, when Fleetwood Mac confirmed a string of North American concerts on their 2009 itinerary. Speculation had grown over the course of the past year as to if and when the iconic rock supergroup would head out on the road. Fifteen shows have been announced so far, with more to come in the future. Don’t expect to see Sheryl Crow on this tour, though….
Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders also confirmed an extensive 2009 itinerary today, marking their concert kick-off for late January with North American shows set through mid-March. … Australian country music star Keith Urban announced his plans to tour, but instead of detailing dates and times, he listed the names of his various supporting acts: Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Dierks Bentley, and the list goes on. … Black Label Society will launch the fittingly named Black Label Bash in March, with two dozen cities currently named on the eight-week run. … Finally, new wave rockers Duran Duran were forced to cancel the first three nights of their latest U.S. tour run. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes is suffering from a serious infection and has been ordered not to travel by his doctors.

The Irish Tenors are about to begin a month-long tour of the U.S. that will take them into the holidays. The trio’s first performance is set for December 6 at RiverCenter in Columbus, GA, followed by more than 10 other shows through the December 21 closer at Vilar Center in Beaver Creek, CO. Other stops on the winter jaunt include a December 8-9 stay at McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA, a December 13 show at Coral Springs Center for the Arts in Coral Springs, FL, and a December 18 concert at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, CA.
Ronan Tynan, formerly a member of the Irish Tenors, will be pursuing his own busy schedule of solo dates to close out 2008 and ring in the New Year. The vocalist has one concert tonight (December 3) at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, OH, and an additional five shows slated through the end of the year, including a December 28 performance at Kleinhan’s Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. Tynan begins 2009 with a January 13-14 run at Youkey Theatre in Lakeland, FL, and has more than 10 other shows booked through his May 26 gig at Newberry Opera House in Newberry, SC. Other notable stops include a January 17 show at the Grand Opera House in Galveston, TX, a March 15 concert at St. Michael’s in Brooklyn, NY, and a March 20-21 set at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, MN.
Nickelback will follow its early 2009 run of North America with a block of dates in the UK. The hard rock crew will head across the pond for a May 22 kick-off at Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, and end the stretch of dates with a May 28 concert at the O2 Arena in London. The intermediary gigs are set for May 23 at S.E.C.C. in Glasgow, May 25 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and May 26 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Nickelback’s North American tour runs from February 25 at the Sommet Center in Nashville, TN, through April 23 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC.
David Byrne has added an impressive new run of dates in Australia and New Zealand for winter 2009. The former Talking Heads frontman opens with February 1 and 2 shows at the famed Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, and continues on through February 9 and 10 sets at Hamer Hall in Melbourne. From there, Byrne hops over to New Zeland for two final shows: February 13 at Michael Fowler Center in Wellington, and February 14 at ASB Theatre in Auckland.
Kinky has announced plans for a 15-date tour of the U.S. in 2009. The Mexico-based rock band will start out on February 21 at the Grand Ballroom at Regency Center in San Francisco, CA, and will continue on through March 14 at Congress Theater in Chicago, IL. Other stops along the way include back-to-back House of Blues performances on February 25 in Anaheim, CA, and on February 26 in San Diego, CA, followed by two shows in New York City: March 12 at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza and March 13 at Blender Theatre at Gramercy. Most of the intermediate concerts are booked for Texas and Southwestern U.S.
