After completing a heavy touring schedule in 2008, Bruce Springsteen has announced that he’ll be back on the road with the E Street Band later this year. The first dates have been rolled out for the Boss’s summer European tour, and North American dates are expected to come in the near future.
Rock pianist Ben Folds will soon head out for a brief tour to support his 2008 album “Way to Normal,” with plans for an a cappella covers album on the horizon for spring 2009. … Veteran rockers Queensrÿche will tour this spring as the band promotes its upcoming March concept album, “American Soldier.” … Finally, afrobeat musician Femi Kuti was forced to cancel his North American tour plans at the beginning of this month due to an undisclosed illness.

Tom Jones is in the midst of a run at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. But the iconic crooner will hit the road in February for at least four concerts. Jones has already added shows on February 18 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA, on February 19 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA, on February 20 at Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA, and on February 27 at Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. His Sin City run will take him from today (January 21) through January 28 with daily shows.
Ani DiFranco has extended her spring tour itinerary by more than a dozen dates, increasing the trek to a total of 27 shows. The outing begins March 3 at Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE, and ends April 27 at Traverse City Opera House in Traverse City, MI. New dates include a March 6-7 two-night stand at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, a March 25 concert at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA, an April 17 gig at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME, and an April 23 set at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY.
Saliva will begin a stretch of headlining and supporting shows on January 22 with a concert at The City Club in Houma, LA. The hard rock group has a total of 35 concerts booked through the March 23 closer at Wedgewood Entertainment Center in Youngstown, OH, which is also the last show on Saliva’s supporting stint for Shinedown. Select headlining concerts are booked for February 1 at Fur in Washington, DC, February 7 at Crocodile Rock in Allentown, PA, February 14 at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC, and March 13 at Piere’s in Ft. Wayne, IN.
The Gaslight Anthem has added more than 10 shows to the band’s upcoming North American tour. The outing, which is scheduled to kick off with a March 8 performance at Miami’s Langerado Music Festival, is now booked through May 6 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Recently announced gig stops include a March 30 show at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH, an April 1 set at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, MI, an April 13 show at Berbati’s Pan in Portland, OR, and an April 29 concert at Antone’s in Austin, TX. In all, the Gaslight Anthem will play 28 shows on the early spring jaunt, including six dates in Canada.
Cold has announced the first few dates for a nationwide tour, starting with a March 17 concert at The Masquerace in Atlanta, GA. The band has outlined seven shows so far, ending with an April 23 concert at The State Theatre in St. Peteresburg, FL. Other confirmed dates are March 27 at Alrosa Villa in Columnbus, OH; March 28 set at Harpo’s Concert Theatre in Detroit, MI; April 11 at Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, CA; an April 12 concert at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA; and April 19 at Scout Bar in Beaumont, TX. Many more dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
