Eddie Vedder, lead singer and a guitarist for the legendary alternative rock band Pearl Jam, recently announced the new dates for his rescheduled tour across the United States.
The tour was originally set to begin on April 10 and wrap up May 11, but Vedder had to postpone due to his ongoing recovery from nerve damage in his right arm that occurred after he suffered a back injury earlier in the year. According to Pearl Jam’s manager, Kelly Curtis, Vedder was “frustrated beyond measure” at the need to postpone the original shows, but the injury and the time needed to fully heal made it impossible to successfully play.
All of the original tour dates have been rescheduled since Vedder’s recovery, except for his cancelled appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that was set to take place on May 3. Vedder’s rescheduled tour will kick off on Wednesday, October 31, inside the Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Special guest Glen Hansard, former frontman for The Frames, will open for Vedder throughout the tour’s 22 performances. Hansard recently released his solo debut album, Rhythm and Repose, and will promote it throughout the tour with Vedder. The two will travel across the southern part of the United States, from west to east, playing shows in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Florida. The bulk of the shows will take place throughout the month of November, with the last performance of the tour taking place at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida on Tuesday, December 4.
Vedder’s tour is in support of his most recent solo album, Ukulele Songs, that was released in 2011. The album features Vedder performing on the ukulele a collection of original songs and covers, and it was nominated for the Best Folk Album Grammy Award.
Vedder has been busy since recovering from the nerve damage. He and Hansard took their tour to the United Kingdom over the summer, playing several shows through July and August. In September alone he played in several spotlight occasions that have potentially warmed him up to hit the road again. Vedder made a guest appearance alongside Tom Morello at a Bruce Springsteen concert at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on September 7, and he played mandolin at a fundraising dinner for President Obama on September 20. One of his most recent appearances took place during Pearl Jam’s slot at Music Midtown in Atlanta on Saturday, September 22.
Tickets purchased for the original tour dates will be accepted, and additional ones have been made available for several of the newly scheduled shows. According to Plug in Music, the first two performances in Las Vegas, NV at The Pearl and last two performances at Clearwater Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL are sold out.
