World Series tickets drive Comerica Park up venues rankings

By Justin Goicochea

MLB postseason tickets rocket Comerica Park to the top of TicketNews®' exclusive venues rankings list for the week ending October 21, 2012.

Comerica Park is home to the Detroit Tigers, who secured their spot in the 2012 World Series on October 18 after sweeping the New York Yankees without much of a fight. The Tigers have been resting up waiting to learn who their next opponent would be and last night in Game 7 of the NLCS the San Francisco Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals for their World Series berth.

Comerica Park will host Games 3, 4, and 5 from October 27 through October 29. Game 1 of the World Series goes underway Wednesday, October 24 from AT&T Park with star pitcher Justin Verlander on the mound for the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers look to win their first championship since 1984, while the Giants only reminisce back to 2010 when they defeated the Texas Rangers for the title.

Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center debuts at the second position this week after The Rolling Stones confirmed dates for their 50th anniversary. Of the four dates announced two are set for the Prudential Center this December. Earlier speculations had named Brooklyn's new arena, the Barclays Center, as the location for the band's 50 & Counting… performance. The band will take the stage in Newark Thursday, December 13 and Saturday, December 15.

This event is sure to bring some much needed life to "The Rock," as it awaits the end of the NHL lockout so the New Jersey Devils can take to the ice. Other events headed to the Prudential Center in the upcoming weeks include the Kellogg's Tour Of Gymnastics Champions, college basketball from the Seton Hall University Pirates, and Disney on Ice: Rockin' Ever After.

The newly named Sleep Train Arena makes a strong debut this week at the No. 9 spot. Formerly called Power Balance Pavilion, Sleep Train Arena is home to the NBA's Sacramento Kings who will hold their regular season home opener on November 5 against the Golden State Warriors. In addition the arena is scheduled to host some popular events in the upcoming months including Disney On Ice, and concerts from Eric Church, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, and Sara Brightman.

Rounding out the top ten this week is Boston's TD Garden, which jumped up seven spots from the previous week. Who's to thank for the boost in rankings this week? Ticket sales from the upcoming Dave Matthews Band Winter tour and Kiss 108's Jingle Ball both went on sale to the public last weekend. Jingle Ball is being headlined by Justin Bieber who is also scheduled to visit the arena a few weeks earlier on November 10 for his Believe tour.
