Over the course of his lengthy career, James Taylor has performed with a number of his singer-songwriter contemporaries. But in 2011, the acclaimed musician will enter new territory and perform with a representative from the younger generation — his son, Ben Taylor.

The Taylors initially announced just eight dates for their tour, but updated the calendar late on December 3 to bring the total to 18 concerts. The father-and-son outing now begins February 26 at Brady Theater in Tulsa, OK, and continues through an April 2 event at Stranahan Theater.

The winter-to-spring trek features stops on March 1 at Orpheum Theater in Omaha, NE; March 9 at Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing, MI; March 25 at Palace Theatre in Lousiville, KY; and April 1 at Hershey Theatre in Hershey, PA.

Public onsales will open December 10 for the most recently added tour dates, while the initial eight concerts went on sale to the public December 3. A limited number of VIP packages will also be sold through Tickets for Charity to benefit Hearths for Haiti and the Berkshire Natural resources Council.

Most dates of the Taylors’ tour have tickets priced in the $65 to $85 range, according to current Ticketmaster.com listings. One exception is the Hershey Theatre performance, for which tickets are listed on the primary seller’s site as a flat $90.25 (or $98.80 with fees).

The elder Taylor still tours regularly, both on his own and with supporting acts. He toured nationally throughout 2009 behind his studio album “Covers.” The American music legend stayed on the road through summer 2010 for the Troubadour Reunion Tour with Carole King.

After touring with his son early next year, James Taylor already has more solo plans lined up, including a four-concert series at Carnegie Hall and four summer concerts on June 30 and July 1, 3 and 4 at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA.

Ben Taylor, whose mother is Carly Simon, has had an active recording career over the past decade. The younger musician released his first official album, “Famous Among the Barns,” with The Ben Taylor Band in 2003, which he followed with a series of solo efforts through 2008. Most recently, he toured small- to mid-sized venues with songstress Katie Herzig through summer 2010.
