According to Ticketnews’s exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, March 29, TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA makes a grand resurgence, shooting up nine slots from its tenth place finish last week to become the number one venue. Fueling the Garden’s rise to the top is a second date added to the wildly popular Jonas Brothers stop in July, as well as two April performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The Garden is also home to the legendary Boston Celtics, at number nine this week in Ticketnews’s Top Sports Events rankings. TD Banknorth Garden has a power score of 3.30.

The new Yankee Stadium moves up three to the number two spot this week. Power scoring a 3.15, the new home to the New York Yankees is gearing up for its first exhibition games later this week and the team’s home opener against the Cleveland Indians on April 16. Also showing upward mobility this week is the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. Up six to the number three slot and power scoring a 2.99, the Center will host a number of top selling acts this season, including tween favorites the Jonas Brothers, Andrea Bocelli and the WWE tour, currently at number three in TicketNews’s Top Sports Events rankings.

The Gershwin Theatre, leading the pack just last week, drops to the number four slot in this week’s rankings. Continued robust sales for its blockbuster musical Wicked keeps this venue a top five contender week after week. The Gershwin power scores a 2.51. The Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ makes it big on the list this week, debuting in the number five position. In the coming months, the Center will host the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, the Jonas Brothers, Bruce Springsteen and the WWE. The Izod Center power scores a 1.90 this week.

Having led the new Yankee Stadium for two weeks in the rankings, Fenway Park drops below the stadium this week, down two to the number six spot. Ticket sales for the upcoming season of Boston Red Sox baseball, as well as for the Dave Matthews Band’s second visit to the park this May keep Fenway a strong top ten finisher.

The Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA falls three to the number seven spot this week. The home to Los Angeles Lakers basketball, at number seven in TicketNews’s Top Sports Events rankings, also has a number of top tours on its schedule this season. Acts on the roster include Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers, as well as the WWE. The Staples Center has a power score of 1.70 this week. Next on the list is another newcomer, Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Power scoring a 1.62 on its first try, the Coliseum will host Bruce Springsteen in May and three dates by the Jonas Brothers in July.

At number nine, Madison Square Garden (MSG) takes a hard fall, just last week holding at the number two position. Keeping MSG in the top ten are strong ticket sales for the popular New York Knicks, as well as scheduled dates for the Dave Matthews Band, Andrea Bocelli and the well-attended WWE tour. MSG has a power score of 1.57 this week.

Returning to the rankings for the first time in seven weeks is the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. The Toyota Center has an impressive roster of talent stopping by in the coming months, including Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, and the Jonas Brothers, and it also will host two stops on the WWE tour. The Toyota Center has a power score of 1.40.

Baseball and basketball venues are big this week, as are indoor concert venues. Look for more outdoor venues to make it to the rankings as the summer concert season heats up.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
