Australian country musician Keith Urban has a new album under his belt and a fresh headlining tour set for 2011. The Get Closer World Tour launches its North American leg June 16 at the Civic Center in Mobile, AL.
Forty-four dates are booked across the United States through the summer. Urban’s calendar currently closes with an October 15 event at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Other concert dates on his lengthy U.S. itinerary include June 18 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL; July 8 at TD Garden in Boston, MA; July 28 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC; August 20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, NE; September 29 at KeyArena in Seattle, WA; and October 8 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Initial public onsales for the Get Closer Tour are set to begin over the February 11-12 weekend for select concerts. Remaining onsales follow each weekend through mid-March. Prices have not been announced yet for the late winter ticket sales.
Urban is touring behind his seventh studio album, “Get Closer,” released on November 16. Though sales charts have not yet been released for the week since his album’s release, Urban’s latest effort is expected to sell between 160,000 and 170,000 units, according to Billboard‘s published estimate.
“Playing live is what it’s always been about for me,” Urban said in a statement on his official Web site, adding later, “I’ve always felt that the best live concert experiences tap into a deep need in all of us to feel a part of something…to belong.”
Urban has had plenty of opportunities to play live in the past few years. He co-headlined a 2008 tour with Carrie Underwood, and followed up the next year with a lengthy summer 2009 headline trek.
But in terms of touring, 2010 was a relatively quiet year for the country crooner from Down Under. He was scheduled to perform on five dates of the Eagles’ summer tour, along with the Dixie Chicks, but several of those dates were later cancelled by promoter Live Nation without an official reason.
