Lily Allen Cancels Most of Her U.S. Shows

By Alfred Branch, Jr.

Momma always said that drunk is no way to go through life. At least temporarily, U.K. pop princess Lily Allen forgot that message.

The singer has cancelled the balance of her upcoming U.S. tour dates partly because of the bottle. She plans to still play some a bunch of summer festivals and a couple of shows in New York and Los Angeles, but she told her fans on her MySpace page that it’s time for a break.

“I am tired, but more than that I don’t think I have been giving my best performances recently. I have been getting really drunk because I’ve been so nervous about doing bad shows, and I don’t want people spending money on going to see a show that isn’t the best it could be,” she wrote in her blog. “I am not falling apart at the seems, I am not suffering with exhaustion, I am not pregnant, and I am not going to rehab.”

Allen has been touring almost non-stop since July of last year in support of her critically acclaimed debut album “Alright, Still.” She plans to do some writing for her second album while she rests. …

Judging from the overwhelming support of her fans on MySpace, she is forgiven. Her album “Alright, Still” has sold well on the strength of her breakout single, “Smile.”

“I’d like to apologise to anyone who has bought tickets, but you can get your money back, if you take ’em back to the place you bought them from,” she wrote.
