Madonna’s hot ticket sales seem to be cooling off a bit, opening the door for the top two Broadway productions to take over TicketNews’ excusive events rankings for the week ending Sunday, March 18.
Holding court at No. 1 for the past five weeks, the performer was ousted this week by “The Book of Mormon”, which finished at No. 1, and “Wicked”, which came in at No. 2.
“Wicked” recently saw a bump in its gross earnings, up 3.9% from $1.5 million to $1.6 million in the first week of March, while “The Book of Mormon” remains steady at around $1.5 million week after week, consistently filling capacity at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
Still respectable sales for Madonna’s “2012 World Tour” took her to No. 3 in the week’s rankings. The music icon launches the North American leg of her tour on August 28 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, and she wraps it up on November 19 and 20 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL.
Just behind Madonna at No. 4 was Bruce Springsteen, who has seen a downturn in sales since tickets for his “Wrecking Ball Tour” with the E Street Band went on sale in late January. The band’s first tour without saxophonist Clarence Clemons kicked off this week at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. Since the sum of all events’ power scores equals 100 in any given category, an individual event’s Power Score represents its category-specific significance. Top Event Power Scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category, and not across categories.
