Beyonce Knowles brought in the audiences for her first non-singing role, in the film “Obsessed”. The Fatal Attraction-esque drama raked in $28.5 million and took first place at the box office this weekend, according to figures released today by audience trackers Nielsen EDI.

Moving down to the second slot was Zac Efron’s teen comedy “17 Again” with $11.7 million. The film has done $40 million in its first 10 days.

“Fighting”, the Channing Tatum action film, was third with $11.4 million, while the critically acclaimed “The Soloist”, a drama starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, took $9.7 million and fourth place.

The only other major newcomer, Disney’s nature film “Earth”, which was released on Earth Day this week, was fifth with $8.6 million. The weekend was another strong one for ticket sales, which outpaced the same weekend last year by 32 percent. Final figures are due Monday.
