R&B and jazz vocalist Natalie Cole is recovering after receiving a kidney transplant on Tuesday, May 19. The procedure took place at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Cole is now “resting comfortably,” according to a statement from her publicist.

The performer was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in February 2008 and had been undergoing dialysis several times a week ever since September. However, she continued to perform around the world, often visiting international hospitals to stay current with her treatment while on the road.

Now that Cole has received her transplant, her plans for summer touring will be put off for a while to allow her to fully recover. The press statement noted, “Ms. Cole’s physicians have advised her to postpone her summer tour dates as she recuperates for the next three to four months.”

Concert dates affected by the postponement include June 5 at the Capitol Jazz Fest at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD; July 15 at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA; July 17 at Britt Pavilion in Jacksonville, OR; July 18 at Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa, CA; July 23 at Snoqualmie Casino Event Center in Snoqualmie, WA; July 25 at Aspen Music Festival & School in Aspen, CO; and August 8 at Ferro Pavilion in Williams Bay, WI.

Cole’s tour itinerary is expected to pick up with a round of concerts in October and November, which are listed in full below. Rescheduling details for her summer concerts are forthcoming.

During a March 31 television appearance on “Larry King Live,” Cole discussed her ongoing treatment and search for an organ donor match. While she was still on-air with King, calls and e-mails had already started pouring in as fans showed their support.

“The response from callers and folks online while the show was airing was unbelievable. So many people said so many nice things, including offering to be tested as a donor,” Cole wrote on her official Web site. “You will never know how deeply impacted I was to get so many phone calls and to see dozens of e-mails from stranges offering their help. These are the times that my faith in the human race is restored and lifted to its highest level.”

Cole has been touring in support of her Grammy winning album, “Still Unforgettable,” which was released in September 2008. An October tour for the album was cancelled following an emergency hospitalization. However, before the end of the year, she announced new tour plans for 2008 and 2009.
