According to TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, June 6, the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, grabbed the title of number one venue this week, jumping five spots from last week’s number six position.
As the NBA Finals got into full swing this week, Staples had hosting duties for both games one and two of the series between its Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Currently the teams are tied at 1-1 in a series which landed at number one (for Lakers tickets) in TicketNews’ Top Sports Events this week.
In music, Staples will have Lady Gaga (at number three in this week’s Top Concert Events) in August, Justin Bieber (at number four) in October and Roger Waters (number six) in November. Fan favorite the WWE tour (at number nine in this week’s Top Sports) stops at the Center in August. The Staples Center power scored an impressive 3.77 this week.
Up one to the number two position this week, the New Yankee Stadium benefits from continued strong ticket sales for New York Yankees baseball. The Yanks’ ticket sales took the team to number four in this week’s Top Sports Events, a respectable showing in the midst of NBA and NHL finals. The New Yankee Stadium power scored a 3.57 this week.
The other host of this year’s NBA finals, TD Garden (Fleet Center) in Boston, MA, moved up four to finish at number three this week. Power scoring a 3.47, the Garden is scheduled to host games three, four and five of the NBA finals between its Celtics and the Lakers over the next week. NBA Finals sales for Celtics tickets took the series to number two in this week’s Top Sports rankings. In music, the Garden has James Taylor and Carole King (at number two in this week’s Top Concerts) later this month, Lady Gaga in July and Roger Waters in September.
Next in the rankings, the United Center in Chicago, IL, dropped three to the number four spot. The home to the Chicago Blackhawks hosted games one, two and five, and will host a possible game seven, of their Stanley Cup final series against the Philadelphia Flyers. The series, at number three in this week’s Top Sports Events (for Blackhawks tickets), has the Hawks leading 3-2. In music, the United Center will host James Taylor and Carole King in July and Roger Waters for three shows in September. The arena power scored a 2.92 this week.
Moving down one in the rankings from last week, the Gershwin Theatre took the number four spot and power scored a 2.46. The Gershwin achieves high rankings week after week due to continued robust sales for its hit musical, Wicked.
Falling four spots from last week, number six Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA, hosts the remainder of the Stanley Cup Finals games between its Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Center hosted games three and four, and will host game six, of a series which took number five (for Flyers tickets) in this week’s Top Sports Events. The venue has a busy roster of musical talent in the coming months, including James Taylor and Carole King this month, as well as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber in September. The popular WWE tour also appears at the end of this month. The Wachovia Center power scored a 2.20 this week.
Up two from last week at number seven was the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. With a power score of 2.17, the amphitheatre’s summer schedule includes dates by John Mayer and the American Idols Live tour in July and an August date from Kiss, who hit at number seven in Top Concerts this week.
The Bridgestone Arena (formerly the Sommet Center) in Nashville, TN, made it into the top ten this week, arriving in the number eight position. The Arena hosts a number of top musical acts this summer, including a July performance from Paul McCartney, who hit at number one in this week’s Top Concerts. Justin Bieber takes the stage in August, as do Brooks and Dunn (at number nine), who are ending their run together this year with their “Last Rodeo” tour. The WWE also arrives for two shows in July. The Bridgestone Arena power scored a 1.71 this week.
Down two from last week, Fenway Park in Boston, MA, came in at number ten in this week’s rankings. Ticket sales for Fenway’s Boston Red Sox took the team to number six in this week’s Top Sports Events. Fenway Park finished the week with a power score of 1.60.
NBA and NHL finals venues continue to edge out baseball venues this week. The Gershwin remains the sole theater venue sitting in the top ten.
