AEG Live to produce Britney Spears tour in spring 2009
Britney Spear's comeback tour is a go for spring 2009 and will be produced by AEG Live, according to published reports. It is unknown whether Spears or AEG Live will make an official announcement about the deal for the speculated international trek.
Late in September, Spears announced on New York radio station Z100 that she hoped to return to the tour trail in 2009, though her statement was brief and vague. In the interview promoting Spear's upcoming album, the pop princess stated only that she planned to hit the road "definitely next year" and book dates "probably around the world."
The 2009 tour will support "Circus," to be released on December 2. Spears, who is rebuilding her image after a rough year filled with tabloid exploits, last toured in 2004 for "In the Zone," an effort which grossed more than $34 million.
In the past, AEG Live has produced successful international outings by rock icon Bon Jovi and pop singer Justin Timberlake. In addition to producing tours, the company also has deals with or owns numerous venues across the U.S., including the Indiana-based Horseshoe Casino and the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia, PA. AEG Live will open its newest venue, Club Nokia in Los Angeles, with November 9-10 sets by alt-rock musician Beck.
Already, Spears's comeback is highly anticipated due to the strong showing of the new album's first single, "Womanizer." The track was released to radio stations on September 26, first entering Billboard's Hot 100 chart at No. 96 before making a record-breaking jump to No. 1 the following week.
