Barbra Streisand to perform at Barack Obama fundraiser
Barbra Streisand is set to perform at a September 16 fundraiser for Barack Obama at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The fundraiser is expected to be the last one Obama will attend before the general election on November 4.
Tickets for Streisand's performance are $2,500 per person. The hotel ballroom holds approximately 700 people.
A long-standing and vocal Democrat, Streisand also performed concerts for John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000. She initially endorsed Hillary Clinton and performed at a fundraiser for her but later endorsed Obama after he secured the Democratic Presidential nomination in June.
On her Web site, Streisand let her feelings be known about Republican presidential nominee John McCain's selection of Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential pick.
“I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary -- an experienced, brilliant, life-long public servant -- would vote for him because his Vice President has two x chromosomes," Steisand said in the statement. "McCain’s selection of Governor Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election.”
