Bassist fuels rumors of Cream reunion
There is speculation, fueled by bassist Jack Bruce, that the legendary trio Cream will reform and tour again. Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker have reformed twice before; its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and for concerts in London and New York in 2005.
Baker will be the recipient of a tribute on October 3 when he is honored with an achievement award by cymbal maker Zildjian at the Royal Festival Hall in London, ENG. Both Bruce and Clapton will be present but so far noncommittal about performing.
"I know there's a good chance we may play at that event," Bruce told Billboard, "but I don't want to overstate it and make it into something it isn't."
He acknowledges that the threesome will have a discussion about the possibility of playing together once again.
"I think there might be a chance of some more. I would like to do some more... I would like another shot at it. But it's quite difficult for us, because it's all very separate - Ginger's living in South Africa, Eric's this megastar, and it's difficult for us to keep in communication. But as soon as we do it's wonderful. I enjoyed [the 2005 reunion]. It was very emotional. I would like another shot at it."
