Three years after shocking audiences with his outrageous masterpiece "Borat," mockumentarian Sacha Baron Cohen premiered his new comedy, "Brüno," and it captured the number one spot at the box office, earning an estimated $30.4 million, according to IMDB.com and Nielsen EDI.

The film pokes fun at just as many sacred cows as "Borat," but this time following the life of an effeminate and highly-accented Austrian fashionista as he searches for fame and fortune in the land of opportunity, America.

In a close second-place finish, with $28.5 million, was "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," the PG-rated animated comedy voiced by Ray Romano and Queen Latifah, which premiered last week to first place. The robotic franchise "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was third with $24.2 million. Johnny Depp's take on the life of John Dillinger, "Public Enemies," was fourth with $14.1 million. The film seems unable to find a strong audience despite praise from many of the nation’s critics. Last week, two real life bank heists were said to be perpetrated by copy cats who had seen the film.

The Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds comedy "The Proposal" garnered $10.5 million over the weekend, surpassing the $100 million mark. The unexpected hit "The Hangover" dropped down to sixth place with $9.9 million, but the film continues to find wider-than-expected audiences among married couples and adults.
