Dar Williams tour continues on road to 'Promised Land'
Folk-pop songstress Dar Williams hasn't completed her journey to the "Promised Land" quite yet. Originally scheduled to end at the end of October, the singer-songwriter's 2008 tour has been extended through the end of the year with recently added dates.
The fall leg of the tour launched with a September 12 show at Somerville Theatre in Somerville, MA, and continues its cross-country circuit with an October 14 concert at Boulder Theater in Boulder, CO. Highlights include a November 22 gig at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, TN, a December 26 performance at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA, and the closing show on December 27 at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY.
Williams is touring in support of her most recent studio release, "Promised Land," which dropped on September 9. The album is a follow-up to 2005's "My Better Self," a mixture of original tracks and cover songs, including William's folk-rock version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb."
Shawn Mullins will resume his supporting role on the tour beginning with the October 17 show at Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA, and continuing through the pair's October 30 performance at the University of Texas in Austin. The musician, best known for his 1998 hit "Lullaby," accompanied Williams for most of her original tour dates in September.
According to Williams's official Web site, other opening acts will come from Katie Herzig and Lucy Wainwright Roche on select dates in November, with no support announced for December. Herzig is touring behind her 2008 release, "Apple Tree," which is available as a "pay what you want" download on Herzig's Web site. Singer-songwriter Wainwright Roche, daughter of Loudon Wainwright III and half-sister of Rufus Wainwright, is supporting her latest EP "8 More," a follow-up to 2007's "8 Songs."
