Flashback tour cancelled after a few shows
Flashback: The Classic Rock Experience has cancelled its tour after playing only a couple of dates. The $5.5 million arena production kicked off August 27 in Mobile, AL, and had dates booked through November 9 in Birmingham, AL.
Although the show received strong reviews, advance ticket sales were reportedly soft. The average ticket price was to be under $40.
A second leg was to have begun in February 2009. No word on whether that is still on the books.
The nearly three-hour show reworked approximately 30 unforgettable songs of the most highly regarded era in rock, including the Doors' "Light My Fire" and "Riders on the Storm," Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady," Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," and more.
The production is the brainchild of veteran concert promoter/producer Rick Bowen, who has promoted James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, "Jesus Christ Superstar," Chicago, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and "Godspell," among others.
