Michigan Governor Has Proposed a 6% "Luxury Tax" for Tickets
Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm has proposed a 6% "luxury tax" to be levied upon sports, concert, and movie tickets, as well as golfing, bowling, and health club memberships. Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch has started a campaign to actively fight the proposed tax:
Less than 24 hours after sealing a deal with lawmakers on a new business tax, Gov. Jennifer Granholm was calling House Democrats on Thursday to muster support for new taxes to balance next year's budget.
One option -- a possible 6% sales tax on sports, music, movie and other entertainment tickets -- has galvanized opposition by a group of power hitters that includes the owners of Detroit's major sports teams and concert venues. . .
Fans Against Ticket Taxes launched its campaign Thursday, led by Mike Ilitch, who owns the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and the Fox Theatre, and Bill Davidson, who owns the Pistons and operates three of the biggest concert venues: DTE Energy Music Theatre, the Palace of Auburn Hills and Meadow Brook Music Festival.
At the Tigers' Thursday afternoon game, Comerica Park staffers handed out flyers urging fans to visit a Web site -- www.NoTicketTax.com-- and contact their state representatives. (Full Story)

People always want government services, but the idiots never want to pay for them. "the tax won't help anybody"????? You're an idiot.
In April of this year I received two tickets for the same thing in different cities. I was helping an older woman with her car twice and got tickets for them. I went to court for both and still ended up paying for them. The government took $460 from me. I'm only 20 years old and living on my own. I couldn't afford those tickets, but I couldn't afford to go to jail either. I had to use a credit card, in which I've never even used one because they only lead people into debt. Now, I have to pay another $200 that I need and can't pay. I have bills and a part time job. It only works if I don't spend money on senseless and unjust tickets and taxes. I pay my state and federal taxes. I refuse to pay for anything as moronic as "luxury tax".
Hey "Tax on Tickets Unjust," if you're that strapped for cash, you can't afford to ago an overpriced sporting event. If you get the cheap seats at a baseball game you'll pay less than a dollar in tax. Go to 10% of the home games and you'll pay $5.

Its hard enough for working class families to get by in this state because of the economic mess created by Granholm. I can't stand the idea of her now trying to make extra money when I take my family to a baseball game. I say get a life Mrs. Granholm and leave working class families alone
