Industrial music icon Trent Reznor is keeping true to his word to usher Nine Inch Nails into a touring hiatus after 2009.

In a statement on NIN.com, the musician announced he would end this chapter of his career in the same way it began -- on the road with alternative group Jane's Addiction.

Reznor described the venture as a farewell tour that would give fans one last chance to see the band and "wave goodbye." While he stopped short of declaring a complete end to NIN, Reznor did note that after 20 years "it's time to make NIN disappear for a while."

An approximate start date and itinerary have not been confirmed, but the outing will feature the original and recently reformed Jane's Addiction lineup: frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins.

The two bands toured together early in NIN's career for a string of shows that Reznor called "truly the best times I've had." Jane's Addiction broke up after that tour in 1991, reforming only temporarily in 1997 and then again from 2001 to 2004. However, after learning that the group was back together in 2008, Reznor contacted them about working together.

"...And the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting," Reznor explained. "I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago, but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room."

NIN ran the Lights in the Sky tour across North and South America in 2008, featuring an impressive and critically acclaimed light show. However, with each night's intensive set lasting about two hours, the show was "difficult to pull off technically and physically," according to Reznor.

The band launched a scaled-down leg of U.S. dates early in 2009, as Reznor also unveiled a new lineup for the group. The rockers are currently on tour in New Zealand and Australia.
