Polysics tour maps new North American dates
The Japanese new wave band Polysics has announced plans for its first North American tour since fall 2007. The punk rock quartet begins its trek October 18 at the Roxy in Los Angeles, CA, and wraps on November 14 at Glasshouse in Pomona, CA.
The 21-date trek will take the band on a coast-to-coast circuit, including an October 22 show at Club Congree in Tuscon, AZ, and an October 31 gig at Mercury Lounge in New York, NY. Polysics will also visit Canada for a three-show run near the end of the tour, with shows on the books for November 4 at Club Lambi in Montreal, QC, November 5 at Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, ON, and November 7 at Call the Office in London, ON.
Polysics is touring in support of the September 30 release "We Ate The Machine," the group's eighth full-length studio album. The record is a follow-up to "Karate House," originally released in Japan in early 2007 and later released in the U.S. in August 2008 by MySpace Records.
The fall 2008 tour is Polysics' follow-up to last fall's MySpace Music Tour with indie pop-rock bands Say Anything and Hellogoodbye. The tour served as the synth-based band's introduction to the MySpace Records label, which they joined earlier in the 2007. As part of the MySpace Records deal, Polysics' earlier compilation album "Polysics or Die!!!" was re-released exclusively in the United States to mark the band's 10-year anniversary.
Frontman Hiroyuki Hayashi formed the band as a high school student in 1997. Hayashi was heavily influenced by 1980s new wave music, especially the iconic art rock band Devo, whose influence can be heard in many Polysics songs.
