Simon and Garfunkel to reunite for first tour in five years
Art Garfunkel's surprise reunion with Paul Simon at the Beacon Theatre in New York City might not be limited to just one night. According to Garfunkel, the pair is actively planning their first tour in five years.
In an interview with BBC News, the recording artist wouldn't go so far as to confirm a U.S. tour, but noted, "Our plan to work together is coming together but it doesn't go through England this time."
During the February 13 grand reopening concert for the Beacon, Garfunkel joined his former counterpart on stage for the last three songs of the night, performing "The Sound of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Old Friends." It was the first performance for the two since they completed their 2003-2004 tour.
Surprised by the audience's reaction, Garfunkel explained, "It was extraordinary... I said to the audience, 'You don't have a right to expect -- and we didn't expect -- that the interest in us would last and you would care right to today, and I'm touched.'"
After breaking up in 1970, both Simon and Garfunkel have pursued solo careers.
Garfunkel has solo tour dates booked across the U.S. and Canada through April. The singer began his solo career in 1973 with "Angel Clare," and most recently released the album "Some Enchanted Evening" in 2007.
Simon has one concert appearance scheduled for the coming months: an April 18 concert at Fox Theatre in St. Louis, MO. According to his Web site, he'll be performing at the 21st annual Bob Costas Benefit.
