When the New York Yankees take the field tonight against the Baltimore Orioles, it will be the last time the Bronx Bombers will play on the hallowed grounds of Yankee Stadium. But according to the New York Daily News it won't be the last time the stadium will be open with an official closing ceremony set for November 9.

Few franchises in sports have as much history as the Yankees, and the team will recognize that in a ceremony that will include more than 300 former players. It will also include concert performances from the likes of Paul McCartney and Jay-Z. There will also be a tribute to all the other great sporting events that have taken place in the historic stadium.

Ticket prices and when they would become available were not released. The Yankees are set to move into their new park prior to the 2009 season.

In March there were concerns that baseball would not be the final sport played in the old Yankee Stadium, there was speculation that the New York Rangers were looking to stage a hockey game on the field. But with the NHL announcing their "2009 Winter Classic" will take place at Chicago's Wrigley Field, the November 9 event will be the official close of the stadium.
