Yoko Ono confirms U.S. date for all-star Plastic Ono Band one-off
Famed avant-garde artist Yoko Ono will resurrect Plastic Ono Band with an all-star lineup for a one-night only performance in Brooklyn, NY.
The concert, booked for February 16 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Gilman Opera House, will be the first for Plastic Ono Band in about 40 years. Ono's new band will consist of son Sean Lennon, as well as Japanese musicians Cornelius, Yuka Honda and Haruomi Hosono.
However, the biggest news is the impressive list of guest artists that Ono has amassed for her band's upcoming U.S. performance. The roster reads like a who's-who of contemporary music , with Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and son Harper Simon, and Sonic Youth's husband-and-wife team Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon among the confirmed artists.
Clapton performed a few concert dates with the original incarnation of Plastic Ono Band in 1969. Meanwhile, another name original to the group, bassist Klaus Voorman is also on the short list of performers at the mid-February concert.
Plastic Ono Band is also scheduled to appear on February 23 at this year's Noise Pop Festival, which canvasses music venues around San Francisco, CA. The lineup for that performance will be limited to Ono, Cornelius, Yuka Honda and Sean Lennon. San Francisco's own avant-garde group Deerhoof will open.
Tickets for the one-off show in Brooklyn range in price from $39.90 to $150 on BAM's official Web site; ticket sales began January 12. Public onsales have started for Noise Pop 2010, and more information is available on the festival's official Web site.
