Gotye and Kimbra announce North American fall tours
Gotye recently announced the dates for his up-coming North American fall tour. While he will also be performing on tour in Europe this summer, his fall tour is set to begin on August 22 in Morrison, CO at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Some notable stops along the way include the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston, MA; Radio City Music Hall in New York; and the House of Blues in Orlando, FL. The North American leg of the tour will conclude on October 13 at the 2012 Austin City Limits Music Fest.
The tour will feature music from his newest album "Making Mirrors," which was released last year on August 19 by Eleven Records. Since its release, "Making Mirrors" has sold about 2 million copies world-wide, according to Al.com. While it has already been released overseas, Gotye will be releasing his album "Like Drawing Blood" in North America later this year.
Gotye, the Australian artist originally named Wally De Backer according to Rolling Stone, can credit the hit song "Somebody That I Used To Know" featuring Kimbra as a major contributor to the success of the "Making Mirrors" album. The song has been given ample radio air time, which has greatly helped contributed to the popularity of both artists. According to Billboard.biz, "Somebody That I Used To Know," rose from No. 8 to the No. 6 spot on the Hot 100 Airplay chart at the beginning of May. A check of the Billboard Hot 100 today June 22 shows "Somebody That I Used To Know" is in the No. 2 position behind Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe."
Opening for Gotye on the tour will be artists: Missy Higgins, Jonti, Chairlift, Zammuto, and Givers, according to the Examiner. According to the artist's official website, Kimbra was discovered by her current manager, Mark Richardson or OurPost Management, at the age of 17. Since then, she has released her debut record "Vows," which "presents her world view on life and love." Spinner reports that the singer has also recorded a four song album titled "Settle Down," which have been added to "Vows" for her American debut which was released on May 22, 2012. According toTalkConcertsWorld.com the album debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.
"I think people will hear quite a distinct progression when they hear the American songs," Kimbra said in a statement to Spinner. "It's really exciting for me to be adding these new songs to 'Vows,' because it's now quite a journey that takes me from the age of 17 or 18, just finding my feet as an artist, right up until some of the more recent additions."
Kimbra is currently on tour alongside Foster the People, a tour that is scheduled to conclude July 7 at The Pool in Las Vegas, NV. She'll then headline her first North American tour with stops in the U.S. that include Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL; and New York, NY.
