Since holding its final Concert Industry Consortium (CIC) conference in January 2009, industry resource and trade publication Pollstar has reimagined its yearly industry gatherings in the form of Pollstar Live!

The inaugural conference will take place February 16-17, 2010, at the JW Marriott Hotel within the LA Live complex in Los Angeles, CA. Pollstar Live! will close on February 17 with a ceremony for the 21st Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards at the Nokia Theatre at LA Live.

While speakers and detailed session topics are yet to be announced, a basic schedule is available on the Pollstar Live! Web site. The event program will focus on improving the fan experience within the concert and live entertainment industries.

The two-day event is a scaled-back version of the long-running Pollstar CIC events, which launched in February 1995. The consortium originally formed with the goal of fostering better communication within the concert and music business, but the group dissolved recently due to what Pollstar cites as “seismic changes” within the industry.

The publication did not go into specific details about those seismic changes, but the proposed Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger could be one major factor that led to the CIC’s recent dissolution.

While Pollstar‘s editor-in-chief Gary Bongiovanni and COO Gary Smith directed the CIC, many of the consortium’s active partners were in some way connected with Live Nation or Ticketmaster. At the time of the January 2009 conference, CIC partner Irving Azoff had just been installed as the CEO of Ticketmaster Entertainment.

15 for $15 with Napster!Pollstar did not name either Ticketmaster or Live Nation by name in its event announcement, but it did preface a statement on the dissolution of the CIC by noting, “Any industry that takes its customers for granted does so at its peril. Live music continues to be an important part of people’s lives but it would be foolhardy to think that some industry practices are not steadily alienating more and more fans without effect on our future business.”

Bongiovanni did not immediately return calls for comment on the inaugural Pollstar Live! event.

Registration for Pollstar Live! is currently open at the advance rate of $499, available through November 1. From then on, the rate will increase at intervals of $100, leading up to the final price of $799, available from February 13, 2010, and continuing through on-site registration.
