Wicked again holds onto its top spot in the Weekly Event Rankings

For the fourth week in a row, the hit musical Wicked was once again the top event in TicketNews’ exclusive top events rankings.

Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber proved that despite an industry dip in sales, they can still pull in fans for their tours, coming in at two and three in the rankings respectively. Jay-Z & Eminem stay in the overall top ten at number seven, after topping the rankings several weeks ago. Paul McCartney, who has sold huge amounts of tickets so far this year, is number nine overall. Closing out the overall top ten is Rush, whose North American tour runs through October.

The New York Yankees are number four in the combined events but lead off the sports rankings. Their rivals, the Boston Red Sox, are number two. Fellow MLB teams the Minnesota Twins (three), Chicago Cubs (six), and the San Francisco Giants (nine) also make the top ten. Soccer’s prime event, the World Cup, might be over, but the USA Men's Soccer tickets are number seven thanks to a match with soccer-power Brazil at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. Football season hasn’t begun but the Dallas Cowboys (four) and the Minnesota Vikings (eight) already have sold enough tickets make the rankings.

In the concert rankings, Dave Matthews Band cracks the top ten again (at number six) this week. Roger Waters tickets are still selling well for his performance of “The Wall”; he’s number seven on the list. Aerosmith kicked off their North American tour, “Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock” on July 23, and now the band is number eight in the concert rankings. John Mayer is number nine, and the dual concert from Bon Jovi & Kid Rock is number ten.

The top selling shows in the theater and Broadway rankings continue to be "Wicked", Jersey Boys, and Lion King. The theater rankings show Billy Elliot and Phantom of the Opera to be popular tickets still, while the Broadway rankings give precedence to Mamma Mia! and Chicago – The Musical. Radio City Christmas Spectacular tickets make their appearance on both rankings lists, at number ten.

Cher remains number one in the Vegas rankings. Cirque du Soleil continued to flex their entertainment muscle, with three of its shows making the top ten: Cirque du Soleil – The Beatles: Love (two), Cirque du Soleil: O (three) and Cirque du Soleil – Kà (seven). Magicians are still a popular Vegas staple with Criss Angel: Believe (six) and David Copperfield (eight) making the Vegas top ten.
