R&B crooner Maxwell has announced his triumphant return to the road with a 24-date fall trek — his first in six years. The Maxwell Live ’08 tour kicks off October 8 at the Opera House in Boston, MA, and wraps November 11 at the Susquehanna Arts center in Harrisburg, PA. A single performance is scheduled for Canada on October 12 at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON.
On his official MySpace page, Maxwell described the upcoming tour as a “pre-party” tour commemorating his forthcoming Black Summers’ Night trilogy. In his blog, he frequently thanked fans for their continued support as he worked on new music.
Specific release dates have not been announced for Maxwell’s trifecta, which has been years in the making. But according to published reports, the set’s release will be staggered: “Black” in 2008, “Summers'” in 2009, and “Night” in 2010.
Maxwell debuted in 1996 with “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite,” a mutli-platinum record that peaked at No. 37 on the U.S. charts. His success continued with 1998’s “Embrya” hitting No. 3 on the charts and 2001’s “Now” peaking at No. 1.
Since then, the years have passed with nary a solo project from the neo soul singer. However, in early 2008, Maxwell returned to the public eye, first as a model for Gap’s spring 2008 collection, and then as a guest performer for the 2008 BET Awards’ tribute to Al Green.
