Formed in 1988 out of Omaha, Nebraska, 311 is an American rock band that covers a variety of musical genres such as alternative rock, hip hop, ska, reggae, and funk. Their first major record was released in 1993 with single “Do You Right” that made Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart at #27. Their breakthrough biggest selling CD was “The Blue Album” that released in 1995, reaching platinum status in 1996 and eventually reaching triple-platinum status due largely to the success of its hit singles “Down” and “All Mixed Up.”
Since their breakthrough album, 311 has released eight albums such as “Transistor” (1997), “Soundsystem” (1999), “Evolver” (2003), and “Don’t Tread on Me” (2005). The band celebrates “their holiday” on March 11 every year by gathering together their most loyal fans in New Orleans and playing their own songs continuously throughout the event. Still popular today, 311 released their newest album “Uplifter” on June 2, 2009 and toured with The Expendables and Ziggy Marley in 2009.
311 recruits The Offspring, Pepper for 2010 Summer Unity Tour
Alt-rock outfit 311 will dominate the summer concert season with the fifth consecutive year of its Summer Unity Tour. This year's venture features The Offspring, as well as special guest Pepper, who were also special guests during the inaugural Summer Unity Tour in 2006.
Nearly 25 dates have been rolled out for the 2010 season, including two preliminary dates in Alaska on June 18 at The Blue Loon in Fairbanks and June 19 at Moose's Tooth in Anchorage. From there, 311 plunges back into the continental U.S. and joins up with its Summer Unity entourage for a stretch that opens June 24 at Lifestyles Community Pavilion in Columbus, OH, and ends July 25 at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA.
Steely Dan, Paramore, 311 and more: Daily tour recap
The daily tour recap is back after the long holiday weekend with new itinerary reports from the likes of veteran musical duo Steely Dan and up-and-coming pop rock group Paramore, as compiled by TicketNews on September 9.
Starting off the recap, Steely Dan will keep its musical party on the road with a second leg of Rent Party 2009 Tour dates this fall. The U.S. trek picks up again with concerts on October 12-13 at Paramount Theatre in Seattle, WA, end continues at least through November 8 at Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis, MN.
311 tour announces Summer Unity dates for 2009 with Ziggy Marley
After wrapping a series of spring concerts across the U.S., rock-reggae crew 311 will launch its annual Summer Unity Tour with support from reggae artist Ziggy Marley and an unnamed special guest.
The 25-city jaunt kicks off with a June 5 show at Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, CA, and closes out July 12 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA. During the coast-to-coast circuit, the group will complete a June 12 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, a June 25 performance in Central Park in New York, NY, and a July 4 show at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA, among other dates.
311 tour maps spring dates to support new album
Reggae-rock crew 311 will ring in the spring with a new studio album and a U.S. tour to match. The coast-to-coast circuit begins April 15 at Rialto Theatre in Tuscon, AZ, and concludes May 15 at Shrine Mosque in Springfield, MO.
The theater/club tour will hit nearly 20 cities, including an April 21 show at The Valarium in Knoxville, TN, an April 26 gig at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL, a May 4-5 stand at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC, and a May 14 session at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, OK. Supporting acts have not been announced yet.
311, James Taylor, David Cook headline SunFest
SunFest, Florida's largest music, art and waterfront festival, will be held from April 29 through May 3, along sections of Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach, FL. 311, James Taylor, David Cook, Classic Albums Live, UB40, G Love & Special Sauce, Spyro Gyra and Jack's Mannequin have been booked with more acts to be added. AEG Live SE is the producer.
Numerous ticketing options are available: one-day festival ticket ($29); two-day pass with early bird discount ($45); two-day pass (regular price $49); five-day pass early bird discount ($60); five-day pass regular price ($65). Early bird discount ends April 26.
311 plans tour with Snoop Dogg
311’s Unity Tour 2008 is heading coast to coast this summer for 30 shows with Snoop Dogg and special guest Fiction Plane, which spent most of the past year opening for The Police.
Playing mostly amphitheatres from June 24 through Aug. 3, 311’s stops include the inaugural Rothbury Festival in Michigan, and Summerfest in Wisconsin. The band will then head over to Japan for the Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo and Osaka, on Aug. 9-10, performing with Coldplay, The Sex Pistols, The Killers, and others. In addition, the band also expects to add shows in Hawaii in mid-August.
