Animal Collective

Animal Collective is an avant-garde musical collective based out of Baltimore. The group's principal members perform under the pseudonyms Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Brian Weitz, and Josh Dibb. Though all four are active collaborators in the group, Animal Collective's albums can feature contributions from any or all of the members.

Though the Collective debuted in 2000, they have just recently started gaining critical notice that has translated into unexpected commercial success. Despite the highly experimental nature of their albums and ever-evolving sound, Animal Collective's most recent albums "Feels" (2005), "Strawberry Jam" (2007) and "Merriweather Post Pavilion" (2009) have all placed on the Billboard charts, with "Merriweather" peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard 200.

The ever-evolving art-rock band Animal Collective kicked off the New Year with plans for a brief mid-January tour of Europe and the U.S. With those initial stateside dates now underway, the group has confirmed extended European and North American treks for spring.

The new itinerary picks up with a 22-city European jaunt that runs from March 4 at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, Norway, and ends March 28 at Stiff Kitten in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The avant-garde group will take some time off before beginning a 24-date run across North America, slated to begin May 11 at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and wrap June 10 at Club Firestone in Orlando, FL.

The five-show U.S. run opens with two gigs in New York City on January 20 at the Grand Ballroom and January 21 at the Bowery Ballroom. From there, the band sets off for a January 22 show at Metro in Chicago, followed by two closing shows in Los Angeles on January 23 at Henry Fonda Theatre and on January 24 at Troubadour.
