The Backstreet Boys is one of America’s seminal boy bands, getting its start in 1993 when talent manager Lou Pearlman first pieced together the group (consisting of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Kevin Richardson). After gaining a large international following early in their career, the group got its big break in 1997 with the release of their second album, “Backstreet’s Back,” and the beginning of a 60-city international tour.
The band’s success continued until the members decided to take a break in 2002, due in part to problems with their management company as well as Carter’s desire to start a solo career. After a rocky couple of years, during which the group sued their record company and McLean continued to recover from a drug and alcohol addiction, the group reunited in 2005. Richardson left in June 2006 for personal reasons, but the Backstreet Boys have continued to enjoy success both at home and abroad, with their newest album scheduled for release in October 2009.

Show cancellations and postponements from Jane's Addiction and Steely Dan open the daily tour recap for July 31, as compiled by TicketNews.
Alternative rock icons Jane's Addiction has cancelled its six-date tour of Australia after drummer Stephen Perkins was hospitalized in Los Angeles for an infection in his elbow. However, the band is still expected to perform on August 7 at this year's Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL. On the East Coast, Steely Dan was forced to postpone its July 29 performance of "Gaucho" at the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY. An illness nixed the show, which has since been rescheduled for August 12.

There are no plans to reschedule that show. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

The Crazy Life: Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys Mount New Tours
By Talmadge Harper

The Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin, two of the ‘90s more popular acts, are planning to launch U.S. tours later this year and are hoping to recapture past glory.
Their U.S. tours could seep into 2008. For the Backstreet Boys, they’re returning in October after two years with the planned completion of their first album since 2005’s “Never Gone,” which sold over 700,000 copies in the U.S. But with the album and tour, the band will be without one key member, Kevin Richardson, who says he wants to embark on a new chapter in his career.
Martin, who has toured the U.S. frequently in the last seven years and returns from the European leg of his tour in September. The Latin pop star is best known for his 1999 hit “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” which sold 15 million copies.
Despite the previous success of both acts, ticket brokers remain skeptical that they’re still popular in 2007. In particular, brokers are questioning whether or not the Backstreet Boys will be as successful in terms of generating ticket sales. . .
