Ben Folds


Ben Folds debuted in 1995 with his band "Ben Folds Five," and produced four albums through till 1999. During their active years the band appeared on many "Billboard" genre charts, and enjoyed some popularity in the U.S., but also abroad in Australia and the United Kingdom. Folds described the band's alternative rock style as "punk rock for sissies." Soon after, Folds went solo and released six albums, and was the first musician to broadcast a concert live over MySpace. He has also contributed to the works of William Shatner, and Amanda Palmer. In September of 2008, the band reunited for a single concert to support the charity "Operation Smile."

Recently Ben Folds presented "University A Cappella," a compilation CD of university a cappella groups from across the country. He was quote saying, "Music education has been atrophying, and yet… a cappella groups are getting together… I wanted to capture that magic."

Chart-topping rapper Lil Wayne launches his latest North American tour, the America's Most Wanted Music Festival, today. It was first announced with just 22 dates, but ten more shows in the Midwest and along the East Coast have been added in late summer. Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Drake are also on the trek's bill.

Ben Folds tour unveils spring concerts, a cappella album release

Rock pianist Ben Folds is continuing on his "Way to Normal" with a new leg of U.S. dates. The spring run will hit 14 cities, mostly along the East Coast, beginning with a March 17 concert at the Civic Music Hall in Omaha, NE.

The leg of dates continues on through an April 7 performance at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Other notable stops include a March 19 show at Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, WI, a March 26 gig at Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ, and an April 3 event at The Ritz Ybor in Tampa, FL.

Ben Folds tour unveils 'Normal' winter concerts

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Ben Folds will continue forging his way to normal with a brief winter tour. The 14-date outing picks up February 11 at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, and is currently scheduled through March 1 at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC.

The trek supports Folds's September 2008 release "Way to Normal" and will make its way along the East Coast with a few stops further inland. Select performances include a February 14 set at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA, a February 18 gig at Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, MI, and a February 23 gig at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. Folds will also perform one show in Canada on February 17 at Kool Haus in Toronto, ON.

Ben Folds Five reunites for one-off benefit concert

Ben Folds Five is reuniting for an exclusive one-time, live benefit performance of their final album, "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner," in its entirety on September 18 at the UNC Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill, NC. It will mark the band's first performance together in 10 years and will take place in the band's former hometown at the University of North Carolina. Proceeds from concert will benefit Operation Smile: Changing Lives One Smile at a Time.

The show is part of MySpace's launch of its newest music program, Front to Back, celebrating iconic albums that have helped shape the MySpace generation. The show will be rebroadcast on the official Front to Back MySpace profile in October.

Missy Higgins tour supports Indigo Girls, Ben Folds

Australian indie rocker Missy Higgins is continuing her musical conquest of North America, and she's getting some help from two established musical acts this time around. Many of the dates on the singer-songwriter's upcoming tour leg are split between the Indigo Girls and Ben Folds. Of the 26 shows Higgins has scheduled, only two (September 27 at the University of Connecticut, and October 8 at Ohio University) are solo gigs.

After spending much of her summer traversing the East Coast and Mid-West, Higgins' new tour of the U.S. will take her from coast to coast. The trek begins September 11 in Spartanburg, SC, and wraps November 14 in Los Angeles, CA. Through September 22, Higgins will open for the Indigo Girls' tour. All dates afterwards, except for her two solo university performances, will be in support of rock pianist Folds' U.S. tour.
